It started with an idea…

How to design and build a new style and better dynamometer not just as everyone else does and has for the last 20+ years.

We started with getting retarder made not just one off the shelf as these days vehicles are all making more power so we went from a 600Hp retarder to a 900Hp retarder which allows longer steady state testing with great Hp holding capacity. Graphing test are a fully controlled power run of 1300Hp not just 700Hp, this means you get what you set ie: 10 kmh/sec not allowing the dyno to be over powered by the HP of the vehicle allowing ramp rate to go as fast as it wants to ie: 20 kmh/sec

Now with retarders sorted it was time for the chassis, with our 50 years of experience and a dynamometer designer we all sat and put our minds together to come up with a new design in construction and then came the width and roller spacings with an extra 100mm of usable distance across the rollers which makes it so much easier to put wider vehicles on the dynamometer, this especially helps for vehicles like dodge RAMs, F100s, Toyota land cruisers with wide tyres and many other vehicles.

The euro vehicles are another challenge as for some of them you require a 4wd / AWD Dynamometer with joined front bed and rear bed rollers so all wheels turn at the same speed just like on a road so we set about designing this. We designed a special gear box that can turn in both directions reliably (not just a car diff turning backwards) then added a 400Hp specifically designed drive shaft that was extendable to allow for different wheel bases. This was the first locally built fully linked adjustable AWD Dynamometer in Australia, this now allowed and vehicle to be run on a dyno just like it was on the road, no turning off traction control or abs even on a 2wd vehicle.
